Bird Care

There has always been a bird in my life in one way or another. Over the years I have learned husbandry techniques from many people and from observing birds. My practices are what I deem to being the best care that I can provide to raise a well rounded bird and family member. I learn every day something new as every bird has its own unique personality and wants.

How we raise our birds

First and most important consists of the diet. We prefer to feed a diet of 80% Pellets mixed with 20% nuts/seed mix. We like to feed Zupreem Natural Pellets and Higgins Safflower Gold

Every morning we offer a fresh breakfast with almost all vegetables. The core of the mix includes: Garbanzo beans, lima beans, peas, carrots, whole kernel corn, peppers, and fresh Bean Cuisine

We allow all of our babies to wean fully fledged/flighted. It is extremely important for a baby bird to properly learn how to navigate with its wings so that it won't hurt itself later on in life. I fully understand that not every household is equipped to safely house a flighted bird and I am okay with clipping a birds' wings before they go home.

I recommend having multiple play stands in the house so that your new feathered friend can join along in many of your household activities. It's important that a bird is able to stay stimulated on a mental and social level. Often times the only attention that can be offered, is hanging around on a play stand, but this activity holds equal importance for a healthy happy bird.

Toys and perches are rotated out often through their cages. Remember, toys are meant to be shredded and destroyed. That means the toy is working! Creating a different environment in your birds cage will help them to be stimulated in their day to day life. Continued stimulation is crucial to a happy and healthy bird.

Bathing your bird will help with their hygiene, feather condition, and will also help to cut down on bird dander. I recommend a shower perch and a spray bottle. It may take a while for your feathered friend to come around to enjoying their shower time.
